Who needs to fulfill these? |
All non-native English speaking offer holders need to meet these requirements as proof of English Language proficiency. The standard level is required by the following courses:
Exemptions from the English Language requirement will be considered for applicants who have studied the International Baccalaureate programme taught in English, or have been educated full-time in the medium of English Language (including EMI schools). |
All non-native English speaking offer holders may be asked to achieve one of the above qualifications as part of the conditions of an offer. Candidates should be able to comfortably achieve one of them.
For offer holders without one of the above formal qualifications, but are currently being taught in English, they should contact the admissions office of their college for advice. In some cases, a College may include a requirement to attend a language support programme or a College-provided course – as a condition of an offer, instead of one of the qualifications listed. Note that the English requirements are the same regardless of the courses for Cambridge. |
IELTS |
The IELTS is widely recognised as a reliable means of assessing the language ability of candidates who need to study/work where English is the language of communication.
It consists of 4 components: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. There are two types of IELTS: Academic and General Training. Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing sections differs depending on which test you take. Candidates wishing to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels should take the IELTS Academic module. Find out more at ielts.org |
