Background

The Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES) was launched in 2014 to support outstanding local students to pursue studies in world-renowned universities outside Hong Kong. This was one of the initiatives announced in the 2014 Policy Address in a bid to provide senior secondary graduates with broader and more diversified further study pathways both in and outside Hong Kong.

Up to 100 scholarship offers may be made per cohort.

What is included?

• All awardees receive a non-means-tested schlolarship to cover their tuition fees, subject to a ceiling of HK$300,000 per annum, whichever is lower.
• A means-tested bursary will be granted to students who may need additional support to pursue their study, subject to a ceiling of HK$200,000 per student per annum, for covering living and other study-related expenses. ​

Commitments of Scholars

Awardees would be required to complete the specific study programmes and return to Hong Kong upon graduation to work for at least 2 years, or a period equivalent to the duration of receiving the scholarship, whichever is longer.

Eligibility

Applicants are required to meet the following two criteria:

• Have right of abode or right to land, or have entered Hong Kong on One-way Permits
• Have resided in Hong Kong continuously for 3 complete years immediately prior to the commencement of the academic programme outside Hong Kong

There are no college/university requirements. Applicants need to submit their applications online via the scholarship application system on or before December 31, with the relevant documents emailed to the HKSES secretariat. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed and notified if their application is successful.
