Jardine Foundation Scholarship

Background

The Jardine Foundation was set up in 1982 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Jardine Matheson Group. The Educational Trust provides scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge Universities for students from Asia. Their goal is to develop future leaders who will give back to the communities where they operate.

Since the launch of the Foundation, scholarships have been awarded to over 290 outstanding students from Cambodia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Phillippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Jardine gives internships in Jardines to its scholars, and scholars can have networks with other scholars, past and current, through events.

What is included?

The scholarship covers:
  • University tuition fees
  • College fees
  • An annual stipend (for board and lodging and other incidental expenses)
  • UK immigration health surcharge fees
  • A standard economy class airfare at the beginning of the scholarship, and for the return journey on completion of the scholarship period

Preferred Colleges

Preference will be given to undergraduate courses in the following colleges:

Cambridge
  • Downing College, Magdalene College, Peterhouse College, Trinity College
Oxford
  • Exeter College, Oriel College, The Queen's College, Trinity College

Scholarship awards will not be confirmed by the scholarship committee until the candidate has been accepted by one of the preferred colleges.

Eligibility

Applicants must:
  • Be within 7 years of having completed the secondary school education at the date of entry to any one of the preferred colleges
  • Be resident in mainland China, Hong Kong, and others
  • Be in a satisfactory state of health
Applicants will not be considered if their parents have not resided in such relevant country or territory for at least 7 years prior to the proposed date of entry to University. Applicants will not be considered if they have been awarded other fully-covered scholarships to study overseas at the time of the application.

Selection Criteria

In addition to academic achievements, the foundation is also looking for:
  • Personal qualities and character to which the applicant has demonstrated exceptional qualities of leadership and fellowship
  • Achievements in non-curricular activities, including sports
  • Community involvement and activities

Applicants who cannot attend the final interview in Hong Kong will not be considered.
