Toby Yu
HKSES Scholar; H.Y.K. Yuen Long District Secondary School (Class of 2022) Law (HKU-UCL) "As a local school student, studying abroad sounded like a “mission impossible” to me, not to mention studying at Oxbridge. That is why I am more than grateful for the help offered by AAHK. With the one-on-one support of current Oxbridge students, I tailored my personal statement to meet their “unspoken” criteria, and even did mock interviews so as to familiarise myself with the actual interview setting. The interviews were intellectually stimulating, and were highly similar to my actual interview experience! From the admission test and interview to actual mentorship, I really treasured each learning opportunity designed delicately by AAHK!" |

Ying Wa Girls’ School (Class of 2022) Natural Sciences (Biological) at University of Cambridge "Before joining the AAHK mentorship programme, to me, going to Cambridge is a dream too wild to come true. My background from a local secondary school that has little Oxbridge application experience has made it especially challenging for me to apply on my own. Luckily enough, I learned about AAHK via a friend during the last round of mentorship application. I was paired up with wonderful mentors who gave me extremely helpful advice and tips on my personal statement, admission test, interview and scholarship application. They also organised a number of mock interviews which not only helped me academically but also boosted my confidence during the interview. Sometimes it’s quite hard to believe that such a programme is completely free of charge and the mentors are volunteering, expecting nothing in return. " |

Prince Philip Scholar, S.K.H. Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School (Class of 2022) Natural Sciences (Biological) at University of Cambridge "Growing up in a local secondary school, I spent most of my time drilling past paper questions, seldom practising “out-of-the-box thinking” or exploring beyond the DSE curriculum. I thought I was nowhere close to an ideal candidate for top UK universities, let alone being awarded a scholarship. Furthermore, my mentor assisted me in polishing my scholarship application and interview skills. This enabled me to stand out of the crowd and demonstrate my full potential, earning me an offer from Cambridge and a full-ride scholarship that covers all my tuition fees and greatly alleviates my financial burden." |

St. Paul’s College (Class of 2023) Applied for Cambridge Medicine "As a grass-rooted student studying in a local school, the idea of studying at Oxford has always been more of a dream than an attainable goal. Not only does AAHK sharpen my competitive edge academically, but AAHK also plays a pivotal role in helping me to apply for different scholarships. Personalised guidance from AAHK gave me a complete understanding of what I needed to show to demonstrate my suitability as a candidate... On top of that, I am fortunate enough to receive additional financial support from AAHK which covers my BMAT, IELTS, UCAS, and as well as Cambridge Application Fees, for a total of over 6000 HKD! This has by all means alleviated my financial burden which is of much importance to pursue my dream." |
