Free UK Mentorship

About our Mentorship Programme
Access Abroad Hong Kong offers a completely free, one-to-one mentorship programme to help under-resourced Hong Kong secondary students apply to top UK universities. Mentors are current UK university students from Hong Kong and are matched to mentees based on the subject they are applying for.
70% of our mentees came from government subsidised schools, including ...
Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School
Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School
NT Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School
Stewards Pooi Tun Secondary School
SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School
Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School
We aim to bridge the economic, financial aspiration gap for the underprivileged.
Mentorship Process
01
UCAS Application
UCAS Personal Statement Feedback
Our mentors will provide personalised feedback on your UCAS personal statement, breaking down the key components that universities admissions tutors look for.
Admissions Test Training
If the course that you are applying to requires an admissions test, our mentors will help you prepare for it with mock questions and exam strategies.
1-to-1 Mock Interview
If the course you are applying for requires an interview, this will be a crucial part of your application process (particularly for Oxford and Cambridge). Our mentors will conduct mock interviews with you and guide you through all the key aspects of the interview process.
02
Scholarship Applications
Scholarship Mentoring
As the only organisation in Hong Kong providing scholarship application guidance for free, our mentors (specific to each scholarship) will explain to you the requirements and interview techniques for each scholarship. They will also conduct mock interviews with you to ensure that you are fully prepared when applying for scholarships, thereby increasing your chances of studying abroad.
03
Financial Support
Financial Support Scheme
For mentees that require financial support, we can subsidise most application fees during the application process, including the UCAS application fee, IELTS registration fee and admissions test registration fee.
“Sometimes it’s quite hard to believe that such a programme is completely free of charge and the mentors are volunteering, expecting nothing in return. In hindsight, AAHK contributed a large part to my dream come true and I am more than grateful for the mentors’ selfless dedication which has inspired me to do the same.”

Eligibility
Entering university
in 2027

-
Applicants must intend to enter university in September/October 2027
-
Form 5 students intending to apply for university next year, Form 6 graduates planning to take a gap year, students currently enrolled at a local university who wish to re-apply for university, and Form 4 students intending to enter university early are all eligible to apply.
Good
grades

-
Applicants are expected to have a minimum of 5,4,4 for their predicted grades in DSE elective subjects (statement of predicted grades can be submitted at a later date).
-
Under-resourced applicants studying in government / aided / caput schools and / or from low-income backgrounds are prioritised.
-
We will consider each application thoroughly and holistically. During the selection process, we may request additional information (e.g. financial proof) in order to better inform our decision.
Studying in Hong Kong

-
Applicants have to be current Hong Kong students and studying in local schools.
-
Applicants currently studying in government/aided schools or Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools with means-tested tuition fee remission and/or government financial assistance will be prioritised.
Applying to top UK universities

-
Applicants should intend to apply to a G5 university (Cambridge, Oxford, UCL, Imperial, LSE) as their first choice university, unless the applicant’s chosen subject is not offered at the above universities/is prestigious at that particular university (e.g. Bath Psychology, KCL War Studies).
-
Remarks:
-
The reasoning behind this is that we would want our mentees to be reasonably competitive for HKSES, which is the only major full-ride non-Oxbridge scholarship available for Hong Kong students, and HKSES highly values global university and subject rankings when considering applications.
-
We will consider each applicant on a case-by-case basis regarding their background and reasons for applying to non-G5 programme(s), therefore we still strongly encourage you to apply to our mentorship programme even if you may not be applying to a G5 university as your first choice!

Application Timeline

There had been no successful Oxford undergraduate applications from students at my secondary school before, so I was very unfamiliar with UCAS and scholarship application processes. I am very thankful for my mentor, as he arranged weekly interview sessions with me and taught me practical interview skills, enabling me to thrive in my scholarship application. Receiving the full-ride Jardine Scholarship has greatly reduced the financial burden on my family.
